The Letition system

The Letition.org system was established in Geelong and started fully in January 2023. It is a call for many climate groups, community-based organisations and grassroots voters who are passionate about the need for real climate action at the Federal Parliament level, to work together.

The Letition system already has climate networkers from Cairns to Hobart and across to Western Australia, who are sending monthly Letitions. (No one yet in South Australia.) With this support, grassroots individuals have mailed many Letitions to Federal Parliamentarians asking for urgent forums and action on climate change. For the system to gain increased traction, hundreds of Letitions need to be mailed, all asking for forums (4 per year) in all electorates. This allows the democratic system to work. These forums will give time for all to listen, understand, and act.

The history of climate action includes many statements by bodies such as the Climate Council, The Australia Institute, ClimateWorks, CSIRO, IPCC, and the United Nations - which can be summarised like this: “Time is running out, action must be now.”

In a major report on the climate published in March 2023, the IPCC and the United Nations concluded that cuts to greenhouse gas emissions need to be “deep, rapid and sustained” if the world is avoid a complete societal collapse due to food and water shortages.

This section of the website is developing as the grassroots join and will be uploaded when climate groups and organisations have established and presented their lists and details. In the meantime Letitions are being mailed out all asking for forums and action from all in Canberra.
